Support Al Naqab a self-organized, self-funded, grassroots community center in Burj al Barajneh
In early 2013, a group of independent Palestinian and Lebanese youth in Beirut came together to address the urgent needs affecting our communities: as the war in Syria continued and the living conditions continued to deteriorate, thousands of families (Syrian and Palestinian) were displaced from their homes and sought refuge in the camps of Lebanon.
Our group visited the homes of newly arrived displaced families in the Shatila and Burj al Barajneh camps. Most displaced families live in homes or shelters with limited living space and few resources. During the visits, many people expressed interest in schooling, computer and internet access, kitchen use, and other activities. Moreover, many families reported that their children were not attending schools. Responding to these needs, we established Al Naqab Center for Youth Activities.
Al-Naqab is striving to maintain our financial independence. We are determined to continue to organize as a community center that relies on the voluntary participation from our community. The support of our community is something that allows us to sustain ourselves without relying on short-term funding from international organizations. We started this project in response to the needs of our community and we are determined to continue with the support of our community. We urge you to consider making a financial contribution to support our work and allow us to continue to grow.
